To coincide with the Love Architecture Festival, visitors to Ely this weekend can learn all about the amazing and historic buildings which make Ely so famous.

Two special guided events have been organised to celebrate the Festival which is organised by The Royal Institute of British Architects to champion better buildings, communities and the environment through architecture.

‘Ely – Through its Architecture’ is a guided walk on Saturday 29 June at 11am from Oliver Cromwell’s House. People will learn about the wealth of architecture of some of Ely’s period buildings through this walk with our informed guide with tickets costing just £3.50 per person.

On Sunday 30 June at 2pm, there will be an ‘Architectural Tour of Oliver Cromwell’s House’. This tour will give visitors the opportunity to look at the history of the building from the 13th century to the present. People will be challenged to spot the architectural clues which date the period of each room and sneak a peek behind a special closed door.

Normal admission prices to the House apply to this guided tour.

Tracey Harding, Tourism Team Leader at East Cambridgeshire District Council said: "Where ever you walk in Ely, you are surrounded by incredible architecture built to intimate, impress or simply to be enjoyed. The two events we have organised to coincide with the Love Architecture Festival aim to show just how amazing the buildings we have in our city are. Some are very obvious but others are hidden away but once you know of them, you can treasure them as much as some of the larger monastic buildings. So please get in touch to book your place before all the places are booked up."

Admission prices for Oliver Cromwell’s House start at £4.60 for adults with concessions £4.10, children at £3.10 or a family ticket (2 adult & 3 children) available at £13.

There are limited places available on both tours so booking ahead is recommended at Ely Tourist Information Centre
