Cheveley Neighbourhood Plan

Latest Update - Agreement to Proceed to Referendum issued on 27 June 2024

The Examiner's Report (PDF, 0.3MB) was received on 12 June 2024. It has been carefully considered by both Cheveley Parish Council and East Cambridgeshire District Council and a decision (PDF, 0.1MB) has been reached that the Cheveley Neighbourhood Plan should proceed to a local referendum. The referendum is likely to take place on 12 September 2024, but that date is yet to be confirmed.

Background

Over the past few years, Cheveley Parish Council has been preparing a draft Neighbourhood Plan for its parish area. For details on those earlier stages, please view the Cheveley Parish Council website (external link).

On 7 February 2024, Cheveley Parish Council formally submitted its draft Neighbourhood Plan to East Cambridgeshire District Council for independent examination, which included a final round of public consultation. The submitted Cheveley Neighbourhood Plan and accompanying submission documents are available to download from the Submission Documents library below. A copy of the draft Plan is available for inspection at East Cambridgeshire District Council's customer service centre during normal opening times.

Consultation outcome

East Cambridgeshire District Council invited comments on the submitted Cheveley Neighbourhood Plan from Monday 19 February 2024 to Monday 8 April 2024. This consultation period is now closed.

A summary report of the representations received (PDF) is now available in the Examination Documents table below.

Examination Stage

After the consultation period closed, an independent Examiner was appointed (April 2024) to examine the Plan and recommend whether the Plan should proceed to a referendum. The examiner was Andrew Ashcroft MRTPI. On 12 June 2024, the Examiner issued his Examiner's Report (PDF, 0.3MB). The Report recommends that the plan should proceed to a local referendum, provided a number of modifications are made to the plan beforehand. The Parish Council and the District Council have carefully considering the Examiner's Report and have decided (PDF, 0.1MB) the plan should proceed to a referendum.

Full details on the examination stage can be found in the Examination Documents table towards the end of this webpage.

Next Steps

A referendum is now being set up, to allow voters in Cheveley to decide if the neighbourhood plan should be approved. A referendum will likely take place on 12 September 2024 but a final date is yet to be confirmed. If the plan passes that referendum, then it will form part of the development plan for the area and be used to help make decisions on planning applications.
