Send Money to Someone in Prison

You can use this service to make a payment by Visa, Mastercard or Maestro debit card. Money usually takes less than 3 working days to reach a prisoner’s account, but it may take longer. 

This service is free and secure, and available in all public prisons in England and Wales.  

You cannot use the service to send money to someone in a private prison except HMP Lowdham Grange, HMP Northumberland and HMP Oakwood.  

Before you start

You will need the: 

  • prisoner’s date of birth 

  • prisoner number  

Help using the service

You can get help if you have already sent money but it has not reached the prisoner yet. 

You can also contact the support team if you have any other questions about using the service. 

Other ways to send money 

You can also use the service to find out how to make a UK bank transfer to a prisoner by: 

  • online banking 

  • mobile banking app 

  • telephone banking  

If you do not have a bank account 

You can also send a postal order, cheque or cash to a prisoner.
