It is a legal requirement that all food businesses have a documented food safety management system. It should be kept up-to-date and be available for officers to inspect during inspections. Failure to have a documented food safety management system will result in a lower food hygiene rating.
Safer Food, Better Business (SFBB) is a free resource published and updated by the Food Standards Agency. By working through the document, and completing the relevant sections, a food business should have a robust food hygiene management system.
It is not a legal requirement to have a completed SFBB pack if the business has a system in place that achieves the same ends.
