Skills fair inspires students for their future careers

Hundreds of school pupils visited Ely Cathedral today to explore the range of careers available on their doorstep at a district skills fair.

The East Cambs Careers and Skills Fair, now in its sixth year, was organised by The Skills Service, East Cambridgeshire District Council, Ely College and Ely Schools Partnership.

Students from schools and colleges across East Cambridgeshire were invited to speak to representatives from a wide range of professions and training providers, ask questions and discuss opportunities with potential employers, colleges and universities.

Following last year’s success, this was the second year that primary school children were invited to the event.

The fair was sponsored by Cigre Next Generation Network, Bishop Laney’s Charity, Shearline Precision Engineering, Ely Cathedral, Thorlabs, Ivor Searle, Ely College, West Suffolk College, Busy Bee Recruitment, Tesco Ely and The Skills Service.

Companies who exhibited included Corkers Crisps, Wates Construction Ltd, Barclays Bank, and the Royal Navy.
