Have your say on toilet review

Residents and visitors to East Cambridgeshire District Council now have the chance to have their say on the review into Public Conveniences in the district.

The review began earlier this year by assessing the current state of the nine toilets in Ely, Littleport, Burwell and Fordham which currently cost over £200,000 a year and looked at how other areas are managing their toilets.

One of the ways many District Councils across the country fund their public conveniences is through a charge to fund improved facilities.

The District Council would like to test this option through a questionnaire to ask people what they think of the current service and whether they would be prepared to spend 20p to use the facilities if the money is reinvested in the toilets.

The online form is available at www.eastcambs.gov.uk, by emailing maintenance&parksandopenspaces@eastcambs.gov.uk or calling 01353 665555.

Councillor Bill Hunt, Chairman of Asset Development Committee at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “The consultation on the public conveniences opens to residents and visitors alike from 1 September. It is really important that people come forward and have their say to help with the review into this service. We are looking at a number of options at present – with charging being amongst them. The feedback we have had so far to the idea has been positive but this will be assessed once the consultation closes on Tuesday 13 October.”
