On Sunday 29 March, residents in Ely can come and join a host of organisations as they work to give the city a spring clean.
As part of a week of action in Ely to tackle speeding, parking and anti-social behaviour, the East Cambridgeshire Community Safety Partnership, City of Ely Council, East Cambridgeshire District Council, Cambridgeshire Constabulary and others are encouraging people to come forward and help tidy Ely.
The two hour clean-up in and around Ely City Centre and the parks and open spaces was originally one of the Mayor of Ely's pledges when she came into office.
The spring clean will begin at 10am at the car park of the new City of Ely Council offices - Sessions House. Litter pickers, gloves and bags will be provided and health and safety advice will be provided by Council officers.
Cllr Lis Every, Mayor of Ely and Chairman of the Ely City Forum, said: "Ely is generally a clean and tidy place, but over the winter some windblown litter and rubbish can accumulate. So we decided to organise a community litter pick to help tidy up our wonderful city. We are looking to cover the centre of the town as well as some of our parks and opens spaces - there will be hot drinks and snacks available to all volunteers to help spur them on so please come and help."
The Spring Clean of Ely forms part of a week long initiative that includes Community Payback Day on Tuesday 31st March. This is where supervised Offenders provide labour and support to project ideas from City of Ely Council Environment Committee
