East Cambridgeshire District Council has approved the contribution of £150,000 funding to support the A142/Witchford roundabout project.

The funding was approved at its Finance and Assets Committee meeting on 18th June 2020.

£150,000 of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding will be provided towards Cambridgeshire County Council’s proposed improvements at the roundabout.

Works to improve capacity at the roundabout located on the A142, Witchford and Lancaster Way junction form part of the wider scheme to make improvements to the A10/A142 BP roundabout.

The proposed upgrades to the Lancaster Way and BP roundabouts will help to improve traffic flow and will reduce the length of queuing vehicles exiting Lancaster Way onto the A142. They will also help to promote and accommodate the future growth of the Enterprise Zone.

Councillor David Brown, Chairman of the Finance and Assets Committee said:

“Contributions raised through the Community Infrastructure Levy are used to provide funding for necessary projects including infrastructure improvements to support the growth and development of our district.

“The proposed improvements to the A142/Witchford roundabout will directly benefit our district and therefore the decision was taken by the committee to approve the funding to assist with the improvements needed.

“The BP roundabout is one of the busiest in the district and the proposed improvements are vital to the success of the Enterprise Zone, delivering 2,500 jobs.”

East Cambridgeshire District Council introduced the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) on 1st February 2013. The contributions raised through this levy are used to fund, in whole or in part, the necessary infrastructure to support growth and development in the district.

East Cambridgeshire District Council added the roundabout project to the CIL infrastructure list at the October 2019 full council meeting.
