A five-week consultation to gather views on East Cambridgeshire District Council’s new Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy has been extended to give residents more time to submit their thoughts.

The consultation, launched on 28th September, was originally due to close on Saturday 31st of October however it has now been extended by four weeks, making the new deadline Monday 30th November.

The policy sets out the Council’s commitment to provide an inclusive and supportive environment for staff, members, contractors and visitors that is free from discrimination and further expands on the Single Equality Scheme that is currently in place.

The consultation period gives residents the opportunity to review the policy and submit their comments.

Once the consultation closes, all responses will be collated and incorporated into the policy which will be presented to the Finance and Assets Committee before being formally adopted.

Councillor David Brown, Chairman of the Finance and Assets Committee, said:

“We have already had a number of responses to the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy consultation however we are very keen that all residents have plenty of time to have their say and this is something that the deadline extension will help with.

“The Council is eager to create a comprehensive Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy and gathering feedback from residents on this is vital to ensure we meet this goal.

“I would urge all residents that haven’t already reviewed the policy and submitted their feedback to take advantage of this deadline extension and have their say"
