East Cambs play area given new lease of life

A play area in Ely has been given a renewed lease of life after a refurbishment project was carried out by the district council.

East Cambridgeshire District Council, who are responsible for a number of parks and open spaces across the district, worked with Sutcliffe Play to carry out the works over a 15-day refurbishment period.

Before the work was complete, the play area consisted of a roundabout and a multi-activity unit as well as a spring mobile puppy and aeroplane.

The refurbishment has meant that the play area, suitable for children between 2 and 12 years old, now includes a wider range of brand new equipment for children and families to make use of. The new facilities, suitable for children with a range of abilities, includes a boat swing with one pod seat, multi-play unit, dice play panel and twist rotator.

Councillor David Brown, Chairman of the Finance and Assets Committee, said:

“The Council’s play areas and open spaces are well-loved in the district, so we’re thrilled to provide Kingsley Walk with a revamp and additional play equipment for younger residents and families to enjoy.

“We hope that the equipment will provide happy memories and a place to go to enjoy the outside.”

The Council own and maintain 19 playgrounds across East Cambridgeshire, including the newly renovated Kingsley Walk play area.

We would request that residents also follow government guidelines relating to the use of play equipment and social distancing, details are provided on signs in the area.
