East Cambridgeshire District Council supports businesses impacted by COVID-19

East Cambridgeshire District Council has contacted all eligible local businesses to support them in accessing vital funding during the coronavirus pandemic.

As part of the government’s COVID-19 support package, a £25,000 cash grant is being provided for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses that are operating from premises with rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000. Businesses in these sectors with a property that has a rateable value of up to £15,000 may be eligible for a grant of £10,000.

Small business grant funding of £10,000 is also available for all business in receipt of small business rate relief or rural rate relief.

Councillor David Brown, Chairman of the Finance and Assets Committee said:

“We are striving to help eligible businesses to obtain the grant as quickly as possible. I am pleased that we have already been able to get this vital funding to some of those businesses. To date £2,240,000 has been paid out.”

Councillor Anna Bailey, Leader of East Cambridgeshire District Council, said:

“Our priority during this time is to make sure that we do as much as we can to support and preserve our local businesses in these exceptional circumstances. 

“As well as the retail, hospitality and leisure grant funding, the Council is working closely with the Anglia Revenues Partnership (ARP) to on the Business Rates holiday which will be applied automatically for all eligible businesses. 

“At present, we can’t predict when businesses in these sectors will be able to reopen, because of this uncertainty it is vital that we do as much as we can to see them through this pandemic."
