Council’s community bus offers cost of living hope

Are you struggling to cope with the cost of living crisis?

East Cambridgeshire District Council’s community bus will be on tour throughout the district next week to offer residents advice on housing, welfare benefits, debt and money, energy, consumer rights, work, family and health.

As well as helping to make sure you are receiving benefits, grants and government payments you are entitled to, friendly staff from the Council’s housing and community advice team can also signpost you to groups offering help and support in your local community, and offer tips and advice on how to keep well and stay warm this winter.

Next week the bus will be at the following locations:

  • Monday 14 November – Ely Market Square, 10.30am to 2.30pm
  • Tuesday 15 November  - Sutton British Legion, Brooklands Centre, The Brook, 10am to 12 noon and Soham Warm Hub at the Walter Gidney Pavillion 1.30 to 3pm
  • Wednesday 16 November – Haddenham Warm Hub at the Sports and Social Club, Chewells Lane CB6 3SS, 10.30am to 2pm
  • Thursday 17 November - Little Thetford Warm Hub at the Village Hall, The Wyches, CB6 3HG, 10.30am to 12 noon and Burwell Warm Hub at Burwell Day Centre, Parsonage Close, CB25 0EN, 1.30 to 3pm
  • Friday 18 November adjacent St George’s Medical Centre, Littleport 10am to 1pm

The Community Bus tour is part of a basket of initiatives the Council has adopted to help residents through the cost of living crisis.

Many of the bus stops are at Warm Hubs which have been set up across the district in partnership with Cambridgeshire ACRE to provide a warm, friendly place for residents to socialise, take part in activities, receive advice on how to reduce bills, access financial support, as well as stay healthy and well. To find your nearest Warm Hub please visit Cambridgeshire ACRE's website

The council’s website also contains up-to-date information on how to access help and support. Visit www.eastcambs.gov.uk

Councillor Julia Huffer, who chairs the Operational Services Committee at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “The rising cost of living is having an impact on everyone and we understand that many residents may feel they are struggling to cope. If you do need help, please do not suffer in silence and reach out for help. Like the Warm Hubs, the community bus is a resource to help all of our residents, no matter what their circumstances.”
