Strategic Planning and Development Control Manager

Salary: Grade 11 (£64,368 to £70,282) plus a market supplement of £7,000

The role

  • To lead a multi-disciplinary team covering the local development framework, policy advice, research and development and development control. Ensuring that the growth of the district is carefully managed to provide high quality homes, strengthen the local economy, protect and enhance the natural environment and promote sustainability.
  • To act as the council's lead on strategic planning, policy development and development control
  • To oversee the preparation, monitoring and review of the council's Local Plan and other planning policy documents, as well as overseeing the preparation of parish-based Neighbourhood Plans
  • To lead the council's Development Control service, including the Planning Support Team, Conservation, Enforcement and Trees
  • To oversee the council's legal case, and be the lead witness where appropriate, at local inquiries, hearings and Local Plan examinations

Post requirements

  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent
  • Exceptional leadership and management skills
  • Significant experience in town planning and of managing multiple major and complex planning applications for residential and commercial development
  • Knowledge of planning policy work including managing aspects of key policy documents
  • Experience of presenting in public forums including council committees and at public inquiries and hearings
  • Successful planning appeal record
