New bin service: Check where items belong
Our new waste and recycling service started on 1 June. If you're unsure where an item belongs, use our Waste and Recycling Lookup to quickly find the right bin and help avoid contamination.
In June 2026 we brought in a new service designed to help you reduce waste and recycle more. It includes introducing a weekly food waste collection and replacing black sack collections with wheeled bins.
It is better for you, it is better for East Cambridgeshire and it is better for the environment.
This guide explains more about each bin and list what can and cannot go into your food caddies, black bins, blue lidded bins and green lidded bins.
On this document, you can view the waste collection service standards for East Cambridgeshire District Council, which explain what residents can expect from our waste and recycling services.
The standards set out how we provide bins, collection schedules, assisted and additional collections, and how we manage issues such as contaminated bins. They also clarify the roles of the Council, East Cambs Street Scene Ltd, and residents in delivering a consistent, fair, and reliable service.

Find your bin collection day
Use this lookup tool to find out what goes in your rubbish bin, recycling bin, garden waste bin, or food caddy. Simply type the name of the item you want to recycle or dispose of into the search box, and the tool will tell you which bin it should go in, or whether it needs to be taken to your local Household Recycling Centre.
If you cannot find the item you are looking for or need further advice, please contact us.
