Our equality objectives

We have identified the following equality objectives for the period 2021 to 2024:

As a community leader:

We acknowledge with concern the published data on increases in hate crimes and crimes towards people with protected characteristics under the Equalities Act 2010. We condemn all forms of discrimination against all protected characteristics, and commit to ensuring that every resident of the district is treated with respect, dignity and in an equal manner.

As a service provider:

We are committed to providing inclusive services which actively address inequality and exclusion by assessing the implications of our decisions on the whole community, to eliminate discrimination, tackle inequality, develop a better understanding of the community we service, target resources efficiently, and adhere to the transparency and accountability element of the Public Sector Equality Duty.

As an employer:

We are committed to building an inclusive organisation where the workforce reflects the district we service, and where colleagues feel confident about being themselves in the workplace.
