What we collect - Black sacks
From June 2026 we are making improvements to our bin collection service to help you reduce waste and recycle more. This includes introducing a weekly food waste collection and replacing our black sack collection with wheeled black bins which will be collected every two weeks.
For further information, please see our new bin service.
We collect black sacks every week. Black sacks are for small items which cannot be reused, recycled, or composted. Please securely contain your waste in a black refuse sack.
Yes please:
- polystyrene (break it down into pieces)
- plastic film and bags
- hygiene waste (hypodermic needles are collected separately as clinical waste)
- disposable nappies and sanitary waste - please double bag this to avoid animals ripping bags open and for the safety of our crews
- cat litter and dog waste
- broken glass and crockery (but only if they are wrapped to prevent injuries to our crews)
No thanks:
- food waste (please use your green lidded bin)
- hazardous waste
- construction related materials
- electrical equipment
- batteries (visit www.takecharge.org.uk for more information)
- garden waste
- soil
- pesticides or weedkillers
- clinical waste, including needles
- knives (please take to a household recycling centre)
Remember the following:
- your black sacks must be ready for collection by 7am on your collection day and not before 6pm on the evening before
- loose rubbish will not be collected
- your black sacks must be on the property boundary closest to the road and visible
- if your property is accessed by a private track or road, your collection point will be where this meets the public highway
Residents can purchase their own sacks if they run out beforehand, through a retailer. We encourage you to make use of your recycling and green waste bin as much as possible, to reduce the waste going into your black sack.
