Government announces pause of Local Government Reorganisation

The Secretary of State announced today, Monday 7 September, that plans for Local Government Reorganisation have been paused whilst the government undertakes a review.

This includes any decision for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough local authorities.

Cllr Anna Bailey, Leader of East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “All seven councils in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough have been working closely in preparation for LGR for many months.

“I understand that residents want to know what the future shape of local government will be in our area and this continued uncertainty is frustrating, however, I wish to reassure residents that it is business as usual.

“Our district council continues to provide the high level of care and service that our residents have come to expect from us.”
