Council welcomes interim provider for Sutton surgery

East Cambridgeshire District Council has welcomed the news that from  1 April 2023, Malling Health will take on an interim contract to provide primary care services to the patients of Priors Field Surgery in Sutton.

NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System made the announcement on Friday 10 March 2023.

In a statement they say: " Whilst an interim service provider has been secured, our work to secure a lease on the Priors Field Surgery premises is not yet concluded. NHS Property Services is working in partnership with us to progress the matter as swiftly as possible.

"We will be sending a letter to all patients of Priors Field Surgery by post to confirm the new provider arrangements as soon as we have finalised lease arrangements in place. We also wanted to take the opportunity to once again apologise to the local community for any upset and concern the proposed closure of Priors Field Surgery has caused and thank everyone who has contacted us or attended a public meeting for sharing your views with us.

"Whilst an interim solution has been secured, we want to keep working with the local community to ensure Sutton and the surrounding areas continue to have primary care services that meet their needs both now and in the future. You can find out all of the latest news via our dedicated webpage - Sutton | CPICS Website – and we will also be sharing updates via the Patient Participation Group"

Over the past week East Cambridgeshire District Council has continued to push for support for Sutton residents following the announcement of the closure of the GP practice on 23 February.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Anna Bailey has been attending meetings with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICS and Sutton MP and Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Stephen Barclay.

She said: "This is absolutely fantastic news and I want to personally say a huge thank you to Jan Thomas and Dr Gary Howsam for their extraordinary work in managing to find a new provider for primary care services for patients. We still have the hurdle of securing premises but I am really hopeful we will be able to find a workable solution.”
