How to find out whether land next to your house is council owned
Our legal team should be able to tell you this information, provided the precise location of the land concerned can be accurately described. We need to know the boundaries of the land in question and, if possible, the full postal address.
You can use the What three words location app to provide more accurate location details if required.
Based on this information we should be able to tell from looking at our records whether the council owns land nearby and we would ask you to submit a plan showing the exact boundaries of the land via post to the Legal Department, East Cambridgeshire District Council, The Grange, Nutholt Lane, Ely, Cambridgeshire CB7 4EE or via email to LegalDepartment@eastcambs.gov.uk
How to find out who owns private property
Please contact the Land Registry through GOV.UK or 0300 006 0411 to obtain the relevant enquiry form.
The Land Registry will be unable to assist you if it turns out that the land concerned is unregistered, in which case you may wish to make enquiries locally with neighbours or the parish council. Alternatively, if the land is subject to development proposals our development control department will be able to provide information on any recent planning applications received.
