Hygiene training

The law requires that food handlers be trained to an adequate level. We cannot recommend individual training providers, nor are we able to recommend a particular course, but we have included a summary of the main training available and a list of providers.

Level 1 Food Hygiene and Safety

A Level 1 Food Hygiene and Safety course is targeted towards those in the industry who do not have any direct contact with food or the preparation of food but who work in an environment where food is prepared, and acts as a foundation level of knowledge.

Level 2 Food Hygiene and Safety

A Level 2 Food Hygiene and Safety course should inform you and your staff of the legal responsibilities and best practice regarding controlling temperatures, food storage, food preparation, personal hygiene and premises cleaning.

On completion of this training, students should be confident regarding food hygiene knowledge and have the skills and tools to keep people safe and comply with food hygiene law.

Level 3 Food Hygiene and Safety

A Level 3 Food Hygiene and Safety course is aimed at managers and supervisors to help them understand their essential day-to-day responsibilities, including how to implement the basics of a HACCP food safety management system. A suitable course provides knowledge of food hygiene practices and legal responsibilities and gives further detail on the controls that can be implemented to ensure that the food handling process is as safe and hygienic as possible.
