Breakdown of costs incurred by LGR to date
Request received 8 September 2026
I’m looking at the amount councils across the region have spent preparing for local government reorganisation, following the Government’s announcement that decisions on a number of proposals are being reviewed, paused or withdrawn.
Could you please provide:
The total amount the council has spent to date on work relating to local government reorganisation (LGR).
If available, a breakdown of that expenditure, including:
- Consultants
- legal advice
- consultation and communications;
- research and preparation of proposals/business cases;
- additional staffing or agency costs;
- any other significant expenditure.
Any estimated cost of council staff time spent working on LGR would be helpful.
How much funding the council has received from central government towards its LGR work and, as a result, the net cost to the council after government funding.
Whether the council expects to incur any further costs following the Government’s latest announcement.
If figures are jointly held or expenditure has been shared between councils, please let us know so we can avoid double-counting.
