Competitive pay and structured progression

Our structured salary scales allow for incremental progression based on individual performance, giving employees the opportunity to advance within their pay grade through demonstrated achievement and contribution. In addition, increases to salary are negotiated annually through the National Joint Council (NJC) pay award for local government services Pay awards can help offset inflation and rising living costs, ensuring employees can maintain their standard of living.
Local Government Pension Scheme
All employees are automatically enrolled into the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
Employee’s will contribute a percentage of their salary. The Council will also contribute to the scheme on your behalf, the employer contribution is currently set at 17.4%, representing a significant long-term investment in your financial wellbeing.
Childcare costs
We are committed to supporting working parents and helping them balance work and family life. Eligible employees may apply for a contribution of up to £155 per month towards the cost of registered childcare for children aged 12 and under.

Trade union
We currently recognise UNISON as the official trade union for the purposes of collective bargaining, which includes negotiations on pay, terms and conditions of employment, and workplace policies. These negotiations take place through the Council’s Joint Consultative Committee (JCC). This recognition ensures that employees have a formal channel through which their collective voice can be heard and represented in discussions between management and the trade unions.
