Climate Change and Natural Environment Officer

£30,060 to £33,366 per annum, plus benefits package.

East Cambridgeshire District Council is currently looking for an enthusiastic Climate Change and Natural Environment Officer, to take a lead role in driving forward the Council’s climate change and natural environmental agenda.

The successful candidate will inspire and develop activities that will directly raise awareness and understanding of climate change and the natural environment. They will act as a central point of contact both within the council and with communities, with the ability to provide up to date and accurate information relating to a wide range of projects to internal and external parties.

The post holder will require some knowledge of a wide range of environmental matters, such as climate change, renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency practices and biodiversity issues, but you won’t need to be an expert on everything. More important is enthusiasm and the ability to engage on these topics with a wide-ranging audience. You will be an excellent communicator with good presentation skills, as well as having the ability to coordinate projects and activities effectively. You will need to have either a degree in a discipline related to the post or, alternatively, experience which demonstrates you have equivalent knowledge.

You will join a newly created ‘Climate Change and Natural Environment’ service area, which comprises its own dedicated manager together with ecologists, energy efficiency retrofit officers and this post. You will have the opportunity to work with like-minded people across Cambridgeshire authorities as well as supporting local community groups such as East Cambs Climate Action Network.

This post is permanent and full time. Normal office working hours are Monday to Friday 8:45am to 5pm and Friday 8:45am to 4:30pm, but flexible working hours are possible including some home-working if desired.
