Information about Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHRs) carried out by the East Cambs Community Safety Partnership.
A DHR takes place when a person aged 16 or over has (or is believed to have) died from violence, abuse or neglect by either:
- a person who they were related to
- a person that they were in an intimate personal relationship with
- a member of the same household
DHRs do not inquire into how someone died, or who is to blame, and are not part of any disciplinary process or criminal investigation. They are in addition to these and the Coroner's inquest. Their purpose is to:
- learn lessons about how local professionals and organisations can better work individually and together to safeguard victims
- identify how changes will be implemented and included within policies and procedures
- prevent domestic violence and homicide and improve responses for all domestic violence victims and their children by working better together
- highlight good practice
Since 13 April 2011 there has been a statutory requirement for local community safety partnerships to conduct a review following a domestic homicide that meets the criteria provided by the Home Office.
