Elderly and vulnerable residents in East Cambridgeshire are set to benefit after funds of up to £15,000 per year were committed to support a Handy Person Service in the district for a period of three years.

The money will contribute to a countywide initiative supported by Cambridgeshire County Council, District/City Councils and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group.

Handy Person Services provide low level interventions, such as repairs and maintenance services to owner occupiers or private sector tenants.

Cllr Anna Bailey Chair of Regulatory and Support Services Committee at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “It is sometimes difficult to find someone to undertake many of the smaller jobs required by the elderly and vulnerable. Handy Person Service schemes fill the gap in the market and provide a service that can be trusted. The £15,000 per year which we have committed to the scheme for three years will ensure that our residents have access to this low cost service to assist them to remain in their own homes safely.”
