Get fit outdoors for free this summer

Active Ely - a free weekly exercise classes and a summer holiday programme aimed at getting everyone active is coming to Ely Country Park from next week.

The goal of the project is to raise the levels of fitness in East Cambridgeshire with all the health benefits this will bring.

The classes will be led by a qualified fitness instructor and aim to be fun, motivating and are designed for people of all abilities.

Active Adults

Adults aged 18 plus

An outdoor circuit class, low to moderate intensity, combining different fitness activities such as non-contact boxing and aerobics.

Tuesdays

6:30pm – 7:30pm

Active 60+

Adults aged 60 plus

An inclusive gentle exercise class that will get everyone aged 60 plus active in activities such as walking and relaxation exercises.

Wednesdays

11:30am – 12:30pm

Active Buggy Exercise

Mums and toddlers under 4

The class will include walking, jogging and group exercise. Your child can enjoy a buggy ride whilst you exercise and make new friends.

Active Families

Parents and children aged 6-12

Parents and young children aged 6 to 12 will be able to get fit together by participating in fun competitions, games and activities.

Saturdays

School Summer Holidays – Weekly Classes (begins Monday 28 July and the last session ends Wednesday 27 August)

Active Summer Holidays

Parents and children aged 6-12

Over the school summer holidays children aged 6–12 can get fit with their parents by taking part in group exercise, fun competitions, fitness trails and exciting games.

Mondays

1:00pm – 2:00pm

Wednesdays

1:00pm – 2:00pm

 

Anyone taking part is encouraged to wear leisure clothing, complete a health questionnaire and parents are not permitted to leave children unattended. All the classes will meet ten minutes before the start at the Lisle Lane entrance to the Country Park.

Cllr Richard Hobbs, Chair of Commercial Services Committee at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “Active Ely is going to be a fantastic way to help residents in East Cambridgeshire start to get fit and healthy. The programme is designed to help people of all ages and abilities to try exercise as individuals or as a family. Having taken part in one session already with my fellow Councillors, I can heartily recommend the classes and advise anyone going along to say how much fun it can be.”
